ISWAP Reportedly Detains Four Senior Leaders Over ‘Subversive’ Audio Messages

ISWAP has reportedly detained four senior members of its Shura Council in the Lake Chad Basin over allegations that they listened to audio messages considered subversive by the group’s leadership. The detainees were named as Mallam Burin, Babakura Wanjam, Abu Huraira and Mallam Ari Kara. They reportedly include a field commander, a senior cleric and influential council members. ISWAP’s internal intelligence unit allegedly monitored them before recommending their detention. The audio messages were said to be linked to Nigerian military psychological operations intended to weaken insurgent morale and encourage defections. Security sources say the arrests may reflect growing distrust and fears of dissent within ISWAP’s leadership. The claims have not been independently verified, and ISWAP has not commented publicly. Nigerian and regional forces continue operations against the group across the Lake Chad Basin.
