AI Can Support Nigerian Farmers, but It Cannot Fix Bad Roads and Power Supply

A technology expert says artificial intelligence can help Nigerian farmers access weather forecasts, modern farming advice and other useful information. However, he argues that it cannot solve the food crisis without better government policies and basic infrastructure. Poor roads, unreliable electricity and expensive transportation still prevent many farmers from moving produce from rural communities to markets. He cited farming areas in Edo State, where difficult road conditions can lead to delays, losses and higher food prices. The expert urged government to prioritise agriculture, rural infrastructure and investment alongside technology. He added that commercial farmers should adopt machinery and other tools to improve productivity, while technology helps extension workers share information more quickly.
