Countdown to Digital: Nigeria to Switch Off Analogue TV by December 2028
Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission has confirmed December 2028 as the deadline to end analogue television broadcasting across the country. The NBC Director-General said this marks phase one. Subsequent phases will cover pay TV services, studio upgrades and dedicated production centres for content creators. Audience measurement trials are progressing. Tests in 7,000 Lagos homes are complete, and implementation has begun in Abuja. The commission will publish a detailed phase roadmap after consultations with key stakeholders, including the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria.
