Salah Rested for Egypt’s AFCON Qualifier Against South Sudan Over Artificial Turf
Egypt have rested Mohamed Salah for Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan in Juba because the match will be played on an artificial surface. The Egyptian Football Association said the decision was agreed with Salah before Friday’s goalless draw against Angola. Coach Hossam Hassan substituted the forward after an hour in that match. Egypt’s technical staff said the move was taken to protect Salah, amid concerns about the potential injury risk of artificial pitches. Studies, however, have not established that artificial surfaces cause more injuries than natural grass. Salah has started the season strongly for Trabzonspor, recording seven goals and two assists in six Turkish Super Lig matches.
