Canadian Immigration: Why Your NOC Must Match Your Actual Duties
Your NOC is not simply your job title. For Canadian immigration applications, the lead statement and main duties of the code should match the work your employer can confirm in writing. A title such as “Manager” or “Operations Officer” is not enough on its own. Before claiming work experience, compare your real duties with the NOC description. Keep a detailed employer letter showing your title, duties, dates, hours, salary and contactable signatory. Support it with contracts, payslips, tax records and internal job descriptions where available. A wrong code can affect eligibility, points, occupation-based draws and provincial nominations. An honest classification error is not automatically misrepresentation, but false or exaggerated duties can have serious consequences. Read every form before submission, whether you use an agent or apply independently. List every duty you plan to claim and identify the document or person that can verify it. Claim only what you can honestly prove, resolve inconsistencies early, and confirm current rules through official immigration sources or an authorised professional where necessary.
