Naira Gains ₦8.21 Against Dollar in First Week of September
The naira appreciated by ₦8.21 against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market during the first week of September 2026. Central Bank of Nigeria data showed the currency closed at ₦1,321.22 per dollar on Friday, September 4, compared with ₦1,329.43 at the start of the month. The gain was recorded across the first four trading days. Meanwhile, the parallel-market rate remained unchanged at ₦1,400 per dollar, according to Bureau de Change operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja. Nigeria’s foreign reserves also rose to $54.08 billion on September 3, from $53.81 billion in August.
