Fubara Ally Ihunwo Pledges Support for Wike’s Rainbow Coalition and Tinubu in 2027

Chijioke Ihunwo, a former Obio/Akpor Caretaker Committee chairman and ally of Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, says he will support the Rainbow Coalition and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Speaking on a television programme, Ihunwo said the decision followed Fubara’s call for reconciliation and unity in Rivers State. He said supporters of the governor should work with the coalition to sustain peace in the state. Ihunwo added that he would mobilise support in Obio/Akpor for the coalition’s candidates, including Tinubu. The Rainbow Coalition is led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

What does Ihunwo's backing of both the Rainbow Coalition and Tinubu's 2027 bid suggest about the current political alignment in Rivers?

It is notable that a known Fubara ally is publicly stating support for Wike's coalition and Tinubu ahead of 2027.

One endorsement on a television programme should not be treated as proof that wider Rivers political loyalties have shifted.

People should watch for whether this support is followed by clear coalition activities, local endorsements, and consistent public messaging.
