Agbarho Flooding: Heavy Rain, River Overflow and Failed Drainage Cut Off Ughelli Road
Severe flooding in Agbarho, Ughelli North, has been linked mainly to days of persistent rainfall, rising water levels in the Agbarho River and overwhelmed drainage channels. The situation differs from flooding in Delta’s riverine communities, where the River Niger overflow and upstream flows are major factors. Floodwaters reportedly damaged a culvert near Agbarho Police Station along the East-West Road, cutting off both sides of the route. Several parts of Agbarho, including Orhokpokpor, Ehwere, Ughwughelli, Oviri, Uvwiamuge and nearby junctions, have been affected. Across Delta, flood risks have also been heightened by heavy rainfall, tidal surges, blocked drains and construction on natural waterways. Authorities have listed Agbarho among areas requiring emergency drainage desilting.
