Oyo Receives Two ₦7.76bn Surveillance Aircraft to Tackle Banditry

Oyo State has received two Diamond DA42 MNG intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft valued at ₦7.763 billion to strengthen its response to banditry, kidnapping and other cross-border crimes. The aircraft will support aerial monitoring, real-time intelligence gathering and rapid security operations, especially around border communities linked to Kwara State and the Republic of Benin. The move follows heightened concern over attacks, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. Governor Seyi Makinde said the aircraft were delayed for assembly and safety procedures at a Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos. Once fully operational, they are expected to complement existing efforts by the Air Force and other security agencies to monitor forests and hard-to-reach areas.
