Minister Seeks Federal Support for Onion Storage and Processing in Sokoto
The Minister of State for Works has asked the Federal Government to support the onion value chain in Goronyo, Sokoto State. The request focuses on reducing post-harvest losses and improving earnings for onion farmers. He said producers in the area face inadequate storage, weak transport and logistics, limited processing capacity, and difficulties accessing stable markets. These problems reportedly contribute to losses during peak harvest periods and sharp price fluctuations. The proposed intervention includes modern storage facilities, improved logistics, local processing, affordable financing, and stronger links to domestic and export markets. Relevant agencies may be asked to coordinate support for the initiative.
