What Is Your Fondest Memory of Your Mother?

This morning, I was relaxing in the compound when a young bachelor neighbour stepped out with an Ankara wrapper tied around his waist. My first thought was, “Na him mama definitely give am that wrapper!” It made me laugh because I still have the wrapper my own mother gave me when I was leaving home. If you grew up in a traditional Nigerian home, you probably have one too. You may own towels and other things, but that wrapper from your mother feels like an heirloom. Many mothers may not have had much, yet their little gifts carried so much love. That love was not always soft, o. My mother used to discipline me well because I was quiet but stubborn. Still, after I had cried enough, she would carry me and pet me. Those memories still make me smile. What are your fondest memories of your mother? If she is still alive, call her today and tell her thank you.

The wrapper may not always come from his mother, but the thought behind it shows how deeply those family associations stay with us.

If you still have something she gave you, keep it safely and write down the story behind it before the details fade.
