Awka Anglican Archbishop Seeks Court Order to Block Suspension During Investigation
Archbishop Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim of the Province of the Niger and Awka Diocese has asked the Anambra State High Court to stop the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, and the church’s Dean, Archbishop Blessing Enyindah, from suspending, removing, retiring or dismissing him while his case is pending. In suit A/371/2026, filed at the Awka Judicial Division, Ibezim argues that any disciplinary action against a serving bishop must follow procedures set out in the Church of Nigeria’s Constitution and Canons. He is also challenging the composition of a visitation team set up to examine issues in the Awka Diocese. The Archbishop is seeking an interlocutory injunction to prevent further threats of disciplinary action or interference in the diocese’s administration without his written consent. The court has not yet ruled on the application or the underlying allegations.
