Dangote Refinery Blames 47 Government Agencies for Fuel Price Surge
By Mayowa Tijani David Bird, MD of Dangote Refinery, says local petrol prices are driven up by fees from 47 government agencies. He told reporters in Lagos that each agency adds costs along the value chain. Bird urged the Federal Government to give domestic refiners priority access to Nigeria’s best crude grades. He noted that many countries protect their refining industries with export bans and strategic reserves. The MD also explained that when Dangote Refinery requests grades like Bonny Light, allocations often go first to international buyers. The refinery then buys back through traders at higher prices, pushing pump prices up amid global market volatility.
