Birnin Gwari Residents Demand Apology From Senator Over Road Project Remarks

Birnin Gwari Residents Demand Apology From Senator Over Road Project Remarks

Residents of Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State have criticised Senator Lawal Adamu over remarks they say mocked the flag-off of the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road reconstruction. Community leaders said the comments were insensitive, given years of insecurity, kidnappings, poor road conditions and economic losses along the corridor. They also said the remarks disrespected the Emir of Birnin Gwari, who attended the ceremony. The Federal Ministry of Works recently flagged off reconstruction of the 200km road. Residents say the project could improve security, trade and travel in the area, and have urged the senator to apologise and support its timely completion. Senator Adamu had not responded to the allegations as of the time of reporting.

An apology may be warranted, but the bigger test is whether the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari reconstruction actually progresses beyond the flag-off.

Community leaders should document the concerns, seek a clear response, and keep public attention on project timelines and road safety.
