Group Cites Military Gains Against Terrorism, Banditry and Oil Theft

The Peace Advocates Network has commended the Armed Forces and Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for ongoing operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other crimes nationwide. The group cited Defence Headquarters figures showing that troops in the North-East neutralised 484 suspected terrorists, arrested 370 suspects and rescued 595 kidnapped victims in the second quarter of 2026. It also said more than 360 civilians were rescued from the Mandara Mountains in Borno in June. In the South-South, the group said troops dismantled 18 illegal refining sites and recovered over 250,500 litres of suspected stolen petroleum products in July. It urged citizens, communities and political leaders to provide credible intelligence, support security agencies and prioritise the welfare and equipment needs of troops.
