Senator Monguno Declares Budget Non-Implementation an Impeachable Offence
Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno warned that failing to implement the 2025 budget is a breach of law and amounts to an impeachable offence. He spoke during a meeting with Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele and noted that 70% of the budget was rolled into 2026 despite a promise to enact at least 30% by March. Monguno challenged the minister to explain where government revenues were spent after critical sectors, including security agencies, received no capital allocation. He also questioned why the Federal Government retained N1.7 trillion of N3.7 trillion Federation Account receipts instead of distributing the full amount to all tiers of government. In response, Finance Minister Oyedele clarified that approvals for external loans are often misreported as actual borrowing. He said a detailed breakdown of approvals, borrowings and expenditures will soon be made public.
