Train Collision Near Jakarta Kills 14, Injures Over 80
At least 14 people died and dozens more were hurt when two trains crashed late Monday near Bekasi Timur Station on Jakarta’s outskirts. A taxi stalled on the crossing triggered a halt, and a commuter train initially struck the vehicle without casualties. Moments later, an intercity service carrying around 240 passengers failed to stop and ploughed into the stationary commuter train. Rescue teams worked through the night, evacuating survivors through broken windows and pulling several people from mangled carriages. Officials say 84 people were treated for injuries. Rail services on the Jakarta–Surabaya line remain disrupted as investigators probe why the intercity train could not brake in time.
