Zamfara Speaker Says Eight Defecting APC Lawmakers Were Already Suspended
The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, says the eight lawmakers who resigned from the APC had been suspended before their reported defection. The lawmakers cited alleged injustice, disunity, insecurity and poor leadership in their resignation letters submitted to APC ward chairmen. They have not announced the party they intend to join. Moriki said they were suspended on 26 February 2024 over allegations including gross misconduct, contempt of the House and holding an unauthorised sitting. He also alleged that they forcefully entered Assembly offices and damaged public property, adding that a criminal complaint was filed over the incident.
