Atiku Abubakar: The Obstacle to Peter Obi’s Rise
I have watched Atiku Abubakar pursue the presidency since I was a child kicking balls in my street. Today, at 79, he remains driven by that dream. He has contested six presidential bids across different parties. Each defeat has shifted the balance of opposition power. In 2019, he picked Peter Obi as running mate. Yet his maneuvers fractured the main opposition and arguably helped the ruling party win again in 2023. Now both men are in one party. If Peter Obi is to have his moment, Atiku may need to step aside. I wonder if he will put Nigeria’s future above his ambition.
