Bandits Kill 12, Burn Family Members Alive in Sokoto Village Attack
At least 12 people were killed after heavily armed bandits attacked Lajinge village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State overnight on Saturday. Residents said the attackers operated from about 11 p.m. until 3:30 a.m., firing indiscriminately, burning homes, abducting villagers and rustling livestock. Six people, including Mallam Wauro and two of his sons, were reportedly burned alive after gunmen set fire to the room where they had taken refuge. Villagers said local vigilantes were overwhelmed and that repeated distress calls to nearby security formations did not bring reinforcements. Residents also alleged that the bandits abducted Mallam Wauro's two wives and several others, although the number of people taken remains unclear. The community is urging the Sokoto State and Federal Governments to deploy permanent security personnel, noting that eight residents were reportedly killed in the same village about three weeks earlier.
