FG Releases Eight Months’ Academic Tools Allowance for Federal Lecturers
The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) for January to August 2026 for academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said institutions have been notified to begin payment. The allowance supports teaching, research, academic publications, conferences, internet access, professional memberships and books. The payment follows earlier clearance of five months of CATA arrears in June. It is part of the revised remuneration agreements with tertiary education unions, which included a 40 per cent increase in university lecturers’ pay and other earned allowances. Payment for non-academic staff is still being processed. The release may ease tensions over staff welfare, although ASUU has previously sought clarity on which lecturers qualify as eligible beneficiaries.
