Kano Plans Specialist Training After Reporting Gap in Speech Rehabilitation Services
Kano State says it has no specialist providing speech rehabilitation services, forcing some residents to seek care in Ibadan or rely on visiting professionals. Health Commissioner Dr Abubakar Labaran said the state plans to sponsor physiotherapists for specialist training and expand access to rehabilitation services. He spoke at the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy’s conference in Kano. The state has expanded physiotherapy units in four hospitals and plans a physiotherapy centre of excellence at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. Stakeholders at the conference also called for stronger training, accreditation and greater inclusion of physiotherapists in healthcare policy and leadership.
