A Client Accepted My ₦500,000 Quote Without Negotiating—Did I Charge Too Little?
A while ago, a client based in the United States asked me to create a one-minute AI video advert for his business. I expected a client from abroad to pay more, so I quoted ₦500,000—about $350. He accepted immediately, without negotiating. At first, I was pleased with the deal. Then I wondered whether I had undercharged. Could I have asked for ₦700,000 or even ₦1 million and still secured the job? The experience taught me not to lower my price too quickly or judge a fee only by how large the amount seems. Consider the time, skills, tools and value your work provides. Quote a reasonable price confidently, and leave room to negotiate while knowing your minimum acceptable fee. If you’re a freelancer, don’t underprice your work just to win clients. Charge fairly for the value you bring.
