FG to Offer Data-Free Access to Approved Learning Platforms for Nigerian Students
The Federal Government has launched the Initiative for Zero-Rated Access to Educational Platforms and Content in Nigeria. The programme will allow students to use approved learning platforms without paying for internet data. Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the initiative is intended to make digital learning more accessible, particularly for children and young people in low-income, remote and underserved communities. He said a phone, tablet or computer can serve as a classroom and library when data costs no longer prevent learners from accessing materials. The government also plans to introduce regulated internet access for children under 16 as part of online child-protection measures. It is seeking cooperation from state governments, telecom operators, schools, technology firms and development partners to expand access while helping young Nigerians build digital skills and create technology.
