Bandits Kill Five, Kidnap 22 in Midnight Attacks on Sokoto Communities
Between 11pm on Tuesday and midnight on Wednesday, armed bandits struck three communities in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The attackers killed five people and abducted 22 residents. In Sabon Birni town, gunmen entered through the Sabon Hegi quarters near the western side of a cemetery. They opened fire indiscriminately, killing Abbas Sani and Bala Mai Laya Moriki. Eight others were abducted, including a visually impaired man and traders who had travelled from Zamfara State. Five injured victims are receiving treatment at the General Hospital. Around midnight in Dan Aduwa village, bandits kidnapped three people during wedding celebrations. The abductees included two bridesmaids and a man. No deaths or injuries were reported in this attack. At about 11:05pm in Kwaren Gamba, the gunmen arrived on motorcycles. They killed Malam Yakubu, his son Kabir Yakubu and another resident named Yakubu. Eleven others – six men and five women – were abducted. Security operatives arrived shortly after and prevented further casualties. State Assembly member Aminu Boza has since confirmed the incidents.
