Oil Professionals Challenge NNPC Over Alleged Conflicts in Marginal Field Awards

Oil Professionals Challenge NNPC Over Alleged Conflicts in Marginal Field Awards

The Oil & Gas Professionals Forum has accused NNPC Limited of failing to address allegations of conflict of interest and favouritism in Nigeria’s latest marginal field bid round. The group claims that associates of NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari, including one of his wives, benefited from oil-block awards. It also alleged that a wife of the NNPC chief played a major role in evaluating bids. These claims have not been independently established. NNPC Limited said oil licensing rounds and block allocations are the statutory responsibility of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission under the Petroleum Industry Act. The forum, however, insists that this does not answer questions about beneficiaries, governance and the role of NNPC leadership. OGPF also criticised NNPC’s reported production gains, arguing that the pace of growth falls short of Nigeria’s target of producing 3 million barrels of oil per day.
