Two Die After Refuse Dump Collapses on Building in Calabar

Two people have died after a refuse dump collapsed on a building at Ikot Effanga along Old Odukpani Road in Calabar, Cross River State. Police said the incident happened in the early hours of Friday, August 28, 2026. The building was reportedly constructed in a valley and was hit by the collapsed waste. The victims were identified as Nfon Im and an unidentified woman. Their bodies have been recovered and deposited in a mortuary. The Cross River State Police Command said it is assessing the circumstances surrounding the collapse and has begun an investigation.
