UK Raises Proof-of-Funds Requirement for Student Visas From November 2026
International students, including Nigerians, applying for UK student visas from November 30, 2026, will need to show more money for living expenses. Students planning to study in London must show £1,570 per month, up from £1,529. For courses lasting nine months or more, the maximum maintenance amount rises from £13,761 to £14,130. Students outside London will need to show £1,203 monthly, up from £1,171. Their maximum requirement for nine months increases from £10,539 to £10,827. These funds cover living costs only and are separate from tuition fees, the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge. Prospective students should budget for the new threshold based on their university location and provide acceptable evidence that the required funds are available.
