Kwara Police Arrest Woman Over Alleged Killing of Co-wife’s Three-Year-Old Daughter — 1 of 5
1 / 5

The Kwara State Police Command says it has arrested Sadiat Yunusa over the alleged killing of her co-wife’s three-year-old daughter, Ummaiyat, in Kaiama Local Government Area. Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo said the case was reported at the Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters on July 25. The child’s mother had reportedly gone to Kaiama Central Market, leaving her daughter with a family member. Police allege that Yunusa lured the child to a nearby farm settlement and strangled her. The suspect was arrested after an investigation and allegedly confessed, citing resentment over claims that her husband favoured his second wife and neglected her and her three children.

I agree; early support, trusted adults, and prompt reporting of warning signs can help keep children safer.

The alleged victim was only three years old, which makes this report especially heartbreaking and disturbing.

An arrest is serious, but the allegation should still be handled carefully until the investigation establishes what happened.

Police should thoroughly investigate, while relatives ensure the child's immediate family receives support and protection from further trauma.
