David Umahi Honoured as 2025 Infrastructure Icon, Pledges Transparent Road Development
Minister of Works David Umahi was named the 2025 Infrastructure Transformation Icon by Al Jazeera Media Group. The award ceremony took place in Abuja on March 18 after months of evaluation. Organisers praised Umahi’s leadership under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Key projects highlighted include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Second Niger Bridge, and the Mararaba-Keffi corridor. An independent 2024 investigation found no evidence of corruption linked to the minister. The award committee said its upcoming 2025 anti-corruption report will reinforce these findings. In his speech, Umahi reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency. He invited ICPC and EFCC to review procurement and defended the shift from asphalt to concrete for greater road durability.
