How I Got My Outstanding ₦75,000 After a Client Changed Our Writing Agreement
I was hired to ghostwrite a biography for ₦150,000. Our agreement was simple: I would submit an outline first, receive an advance after approval, and get the balance once the completed book was reviewed. The deadline was initially 14 days, but it was later reduced to 10 days. I completed the book in eight days and submitted each chapter for review. The client and her own customer praised the work, but after approving the final chapter, she delayed my ₦75,000 balance. She kept insisting that I must wait indefinitely for her customer’s feedback, even though that was not our agreement. After my calls and messages were ignored, I reminded her that I retained authorship of the work until I was fully paid. I prepared the manuscript for self-publishing and told her I would release it if she refused to honour our deal. She paid the outstanding balance immediately. Freelancers deserve respect and prompt payment. Hiring someone does not make them less important. Clients should communicate clearly, honour agreed terms and avoid changing conditions after work has been delivered.
