Ibara Prison Chief, Two Officers Removed After Death-Row Inmate Appears on TikTok Live

Ibara Prison Chief, Two Officers Removed After Death-Row Inmate Appears on TikTok Live

The Nigerian Correctional Service has removed the Officer-in-Charge of Ibara Medium Custodial Centre in Abeokuta and two other senior officers after a death-row inmate allegedly appeared in a TikTok livestream using a prohibited mobile phone. The inmate, Elijah Oyebode, was sentenced to death by hanging in 2019 after his conviction for the murder of Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year Osun State University student. The court relied on medical and other evidence after hearing conflicting accounts of the incident. The correctional service said a search recovered the phone and that Oyebode has been transferred to another facility under tighter security. It said officers found to have enabled or overlooked the security breach would face disciplinary action.
