Disowned at 17 While Pregnant, I Built a Thriving Nail Business and a New Life
At 17, I became pregnant, was expelled from school and disowned by my father. With support from my mother and aunt, I moved to a small town and learned hairdressing, nail care and beauty services while raising my daughter. I started with low-paying clients and saved steadily to train in acrylic nails, buy equipment and promote my work online. Years later, I run a mini nail studio and now earn between ₦300,000 and ₦600,000 most months. I have also returned to university and taken on virtual-assistance work. After growing up in a home where money was used to control me, earning independently has become my security, freedom and hope for my daughter’s future.
