Timi Frank Warns of Alleged Plot to Kill Nasir el-Rufai, Demands Release of Tunde Ayeni

In a statement on Sunday, former APC deputy spokesperson Timi Frank said he got intel from a security source that some government officials plan to poison former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai after releasing him from detention. Frank accused top appointees of orchestrating the plot and warned that any harm to el-Rufai outside custody should be pinned on the government, presidency, and collaborating judges. He also alleged restrictive bail conditions amount to illegal detention for political reasons. He urged fair anti-corruption measures and questioned why other ex-governors facing graft claims remain free. He pointed to the extended detention of businessman Tunde Ayeni as another example of selective prosecution. Frank called on the US and international rights groups to monitor the situation and consider targeted sanctions against anyone found undermining Nigeria’s democratic freedoms.
