WHO Says DRC Has Recorded Over 10,000 Bundibugyo Ebola Cases
The World Health Organization says the Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded more than 10,000 cases of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease, with over 2,600 people reported to have recovered. WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Janabi, said response teams were working with the DRC government and partners to strengthen testing, treatment, infection prevention, community engagement and surveillance. He said progress on vaccine and treatment candidates offers hope, but stressed that community trust, safe access to affected areas and sustained support are needed to stop further transmission.
