Plateau Bus Attack Survivor Recounts Escape as Nine Passengers Are Killed
Nasiru Garba, a conductor and the reported lone survivor of an attack on a commercial bus in Kuru, Jos South LGA of Plateau State, says he survived by bending down when gunmen opened fire. The bus was heading to Jos and had stopped at Dungus Junction to drop off passengers when the attack occurred. Garba said the attackers shot passengers who had stepped out of the vehicle, as well as those inside, including the driver, Ibrahim Bala. He said the gunmen later searched him, took his money and phone, and left without speaking. He had been working as a conductor for only four days. Residents and relatives said nine people were killed, while some injured passengers were taken to hospital. Community leaders condemned the attack and called for stronger security measures. Police have also appealed to residents to avoid reprisals following separate violence in Mangu LGA.
