Canada Lists 10 Express Entry Priority Categories for Skilled Immigrants
Canada’s immigration authority has outlined 10 priority categories that may receive targeted invitations under its Express Entry system for permanent residence. The categories include French-language proficiency, healthcare and social services, STEM, trades, education and transport. Physicians, senior managers and researchers with Canadian work experience, as well as skilled military recruits, are also included. Unlike general Express Entry draws based mainly on Comprehensive Ranking System scores, category-based draws can target applicants whose skills match Canada’s labour needs. These draws are not guaranteed and may not be held if eligible candidates are already selected through general or programme-specific rounds. For Nigerians considering Canada, professionals in healthcare, engineering, education and skilled trades may have stronger prospects. French proficiency and relevant Canadian work experience could also improve an applicant’s chances.
