Market Credit: How Do Traders Keep Track of Who Owes Them?
Selling goods on credit is still common in many Nigerian markets and neighbourhood shops. In my area, traders either rely on memory or write customers’ debts in a notebook. How is credit handled where you live? Do traders keep proper records, and how often do disagreements arise over the amount owed? I would also like to know whether a simple USSD system could help. The buyer could record the purchase on their phone while the trader receives an alert, without needing to enter the details themselves.
