FG Plans Energy Zones for 24-Hour Power in Lagos, Abuja-Kano and Enugu-Port Harcourt Corridors
The Federal Government is considering special Energy Zones that could provide more reliable, potentially 24-hour electricity to high-demand commercial and industrial areas. The proposed zones would cover the Lagos axis, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor and the Enugu-Port Harcourt corridor. The plan was discussed with selected electricity distribution companies, including AEDC, Ikeja Electric, Eko Power and IBEDC. The government says distribution capacity remains a major obstacle, even where electricity can be generated and transmitted. No start date, funding details or infrastructure timeline has been announced.
