Hamzat Urges Yoruba Language Preservation After Masoyinbo Appearance
Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has urged Nigerians to preserve indigenous languages and pass cultural values on to younger generations. Hamzat made the call after appearing on Masoyinbo, a Yoruba-language cultural game show that promotes fluency and knowledge of Yoruba through quizzes and challenges. He described Yoruba as a key part of the people’s identity, history and values. He said Nigeria’s diversity is a strength and that building a greater Lagos requires investment in culture as well as infrastructure and public services. Hamzat answered all 10 questions on the programme, but penalties for mixing languages reduced his prize to ₦20,000.
