NDLEA and Australian Police Sign Deal to Target Drug Trafficking Networks
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) have signed an agreement to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking between Nigeria and Australia. The memorandum of understanding was signed in Abuja on Monday and formalises cooperation between the agencies. The agreement sets out four areas of collaboration: intelligence sharing, joint operations, capacity building and controlled drug deliveries. NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa said the partnership would help disrupt international trafficking networks and make the route less attractive to criminals. Marwa cited previous operations, including cocaine seizures and the dismantling of methamphetamine laboratories, as examples of the threat. AFP delegation head Sandra Booth said drug trafficking fuels other crimes and harms families and communities. The agreement provides a renewable framework for continued cooperation.
