Next-Generation TB Vaccines Expected From 2029, With Potential to Save Millions

Next-generation tuberculosis vaccines could become available from 2029, ending more than a century of reliance on the BCG vaccine as the only licensed option. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, says the new vaccines could save an estimated 7.3 million lives by 2050. They could also deliver up to $135 billion in economic benefits across low- and middle-income countries. Tuberculosis remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases. Faster research, development and fair access will be crucial for countries with a high burden of TB, including Nigeria.
