Social media can make it seem as if everyone is thriving: new cars, designer clothes, luxury apartments, expensive outings and weekend trips. Yet some people behind those images are struggling with rent, loans and the cost of maintaining an image of success. Higher income does not always create wealth. Lifestyle inflation can turn a better job into a more expensive life, while debt and instalment payments can make consumption look like prosperity. One unexpected emergency, job loss or business setback may reveal how fragile that lifestyle is. In Nigeria, family responsibilities, rising living costs and the pressure to avoid embarrassment can make saving difficult. Real wealth is often quieter: emergency funds, productive assets, investments and the freedom to live within your means. A social-media post is a photograph, not a financial statement.
