FG Urges States to Raise $1m for NTDs, Unlock $7m Global Health Fund
The Federal Government has asked state governments to increase domestic funding for neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), saying Nigeria can unlock about $7 million in external support in 2027 by raising $1 million locally. Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, made the call at the 2026 Annual High-Level Advocacy Meeting on NTDs in Abuja. He said the Reaching the Last Mile Fund could help accelerate efforts to eliminate the diseases. Salako said dedicated NTD budget lines must come with adequate allocations, prompt release of funds and effective use in affected communities. He urged states to include NTD interventions in their 2027 health plans and budgets. The National NTD Programme said the meeting was aimed at finding practical ways to mobilise more local resources for disease control and elimination.
