Russian Blogger Jailed for Insulting Putin on Ballot Paper

A Russian blogger, Stanislav Morozov, has been sentenced to 14 days in administrative detention after posting a video of himself writing an insult about President Vladimir Putin on a ballot paper during a parliamentary election. Morozov, from Penza, was convicted of petty hooliganism. In the video, he crossed out a candidate from the ruling United Russia party, marked other candidates, and wrote the insult on another ballot. The video was later deleted, but copies reportedly continued to circulate online. The detention comes amid continuing restrictions on political opposition and criticism of Russia's war in Ukraine. Morozov had previously reported claims that residents in his region were being pressured to sign military service contracts.
