Ondo Bans Cash Payments in Public Schools to Tackle Illegal Levies
The Ondo State Government has banned cash payments in public schools in a move aimed at curbing alleged extortion and unauthorised levies. Education Commissioner Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun said all school-related payments will now pass through a digital payment gateway. The system is expected to document transactions, improve transparency and stop officials from collecting money directly from parents or students. The policy will begin in the next academic session following complaints by parents about illegal collections in some schools. The government says funds paid through the platform will be remitted to the appropriate school accounts, while bursars and other stakeholders will receive guidance on using the system.
