Families Demand Answers After NAF Crash That Killed 25
More than a week after the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash that killed all 25 people on board, bereaved families say they are still waiting for clear information on the cause of the tragedy, recovery efforts and the identification of victims’ remains. The aircraft was travelling from Benin City to Lagos on October 5 when it reportedly lost radar contact and crashed in a remote area near Igbokoda. Nineteen military personnel and six civilians were on board. President Bola Tinubu has ordered an investigation, but the cause has not been made public. Relatives of victims, including the family of Sergeant Esther Anii and that of civilian passenger Sunday Folorunsho, say communication from authorities has been inadequate. They want regular updates, the recovery of their loved ones’ remains and accountability over the crash. The incident has renewed concerns over military aviation safety, following several Nigerian Air Force accidents reported in recent years.
