Court Bars Demolition of Kampala Street Properties in Wuse II Pending Suit

Court Bars Demolition of Kampala Street Properties in Wuse II Pending Suit

Residents of Kampala Street, Wuse II, have formally notified the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council of a High Court case challenging plans to demolish properties in their neighbourhood. They warned that carrying out any demolition before the suit is decided would amount to contempt of court. The notice, dated June 2, 2026, was issued by M.P. Anaukyaa & Co. on behalf of six claimants led by Mrs. Nnennaya M. Okeke. It refers to Suit No. CV/1022/26 at the FCT High Court, Garki Division, naming the FCT Minister and Corporate Ideals Properties Limited as defendants. The lawyers highlighted an April 2 order directing all parties to maintain the status quo. Counsel for the residents argued that the buildings have stood for over 30 years and that premature demolition would cause irreparable harm and undermine the court’s authority. Photographs of the properties were attached to support their claim. At the time of filing, neither the AMMC nor the FCT Administration had responded. The case is slated for further hearing before the High Court.

It's telling that the council would risk legal action rather than seek community dialogue before ordering demolition.

I'm not convinced delaying demolition protects anyone long term; court rulings can change and leave residents facing the same threat later.

Residents should gather clear documentation of ownership and timelines, then share updates with neighbours for coordinated legal follow up.
