Somi Unveils ‘What Does It Take to Bloom?’ with New Single ‘We’re All Falling’
After a six-year wait, Rwandan-Ugandan singer-songwriter Somi returns with her new album What Does It Take to Bloom?, set for release on 7 August via Salon Africana. The first single, “We’re All Falling,” reflects on loss and life’s fragility while encouraging presence, grace and appreciation for every moment. It was written during a period marked by personal tragedy but resonates with universal themes. Recorded across Dakar, Lagos, Paris and New York, the 13-track project explores growth, change and belonging through a fusion of jazz, soul, highlife and spoken word. Collaborations include Nigerian duo The Cavemen on “Sometimes Love” and saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin on “So You Want to Be a Woman.” “Searching for where and how to take root is at the heart of this work,” says Somi. Listeners can experience “We’re All Falling” now ahead of the full album’s launch.
