Desperate Search After 5-Year-Old Swept Away by Floodwaters in Aba

Desperate Search After 5-Year-Old Swept Away by Floodwaters in Aba — 1 of 8
1 / 8

On Saturday, June 27, heavy rain lashed Akpu Road in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba, Abia State. Five-year-old Melody and her seven-year-old brother went out to bathe under the downpour. Melody sat on an uncovered drainage box, fell in, and was carried off by rushing floodwater. Their mother, who had warned them not to play in the rain before leaving for Good Morning Market, was alerted immediately. She rushed home in terror but could not find her daughter. Local divers continue combing the nearby Waterside River and drainage tunnels. Neighbours fear Melody may be trapped under debris or swept into the main river.
